A builder focused on constructing modern, high-end homes in Colorado, particularly in the Denver area, Kurt Wiedt is the principal of Markham Woods, a real estate firm he founded in 2008. Away from his responsibilities at Markham Woods, Kurt Wiedt volunteers at the Denver Rescue Mission. A nonprofit, nondenominational Christian organization, the Denver Rescue Mission endeavors to help homeless people become contributing, self-sustaining members of society. In pursuit of this aim, the Mission maintains seven locations, including the Lawrence Street Shelter, which is the most well known. The Lawrence Street Shelter provides emergency services to individuals facing homelessness and economic hardship in the Denver community. Open every day throughout the year, it accommodates as many as 300 men each night. While staying at the shelter, guests have the opportunity to attend church services and receive medical referrals at an on-site clinic. The clinic also offers medical care to participants in the Mission’s New Life Program. For other guests, the shelter functions as an entry point to this program, which is designed for men looking to make positive changes in their lives.
